What is recorded here
Bullaun stone in Ballynakill is a buried boulder with a shallow circular cup, marked by coin offerings and set beside a church wall in a graveyard. The stone is not a grand monument, but a small human-made hollow where people repeated a gesture older than the building around it.
Just outside the W end of the N wall of a church (LF013-045002-), within a graveyard (LF013-045009-). A circular depression (diam. 0.45m; D 0.16m) is carved into a boulder. Coins have been deposited in the depression as votive offerings. Almost all of the stone is below the present ground level. Another bullaun (LF013-045005-) lies in a rockery at the E end of the N wall of the church.

Likely dating to the early Christian period, the bullaun stone may have been used for ritual purposes, such as the preparation of holy water or as a site for coin offerings, reflecting both Christian and possibly earlier pagan traditions. Such stones often held spiritual significance and were associated with local folklore or healing practices.
