Ballynabortagh hides a man-made underground passage beneath a solitary pillar and scattered flagstones, likely the roofing of a chamber now lost to soil and time. Windele identified the stones beside standing markers and ogham carvings, suggesting people built a covered space for storage, ritual or shelter before the land swallowed it. The absence of a visible entrance does not erase the purpose; it invites imagination about hands lifting heavy rock, lighting a dark chamber and walking away into history.

Windele (Macalister 1945, 63), in describing standing stones and ogham stones (CO052-03901-; CO052-053---) within rectangular enclosure (CO052-03902-), refers to '....solitary pillar, with some flagstones laid down close by, probably the roofing of a Man-made underground passage.'
