What is recorded here

Ballynabortagh castle vanished beneath Cork pasture, leaving no stone or ridge for eyes to find. A rectangular enclosure waits one hundred fifty metres northeast, perhaps holding the truth the grass swallowed. The site resists memory, forcing imagination to build what measurement cannot capture.
In level area of pasture; no visible surface trace of site marked on OS 6-inch maps. Very little appears to be known about this castle. Rectangularenclosure (CO052-037---) c. 150m t0 NE. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 2: East and South Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1994). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
