Grave Yd.

Graveyard

What is recorded here

Grave Yd. is a D-shaped graveyard on a rise in County Meath, holding headstones from 1780 to 1930 around the vanished medieval parish church of Ballymaglassan. Masonry walls define its straight NE and SE sides, enclosing a quiet place where generations were laid to rest beside a building that no longer shows itself. The flat landscape makes the rise stand out, giving the dead their own small hill and the living a clear marker in the distance.
Situated on a rise in a fairly level landscape. The site of the medieval parish church of Ballymaglassan (ME050-002----), of which there is no physical trace, is within a D-shaped graveyard (max. dims c. 50m NE-SW; c. 40m NW-SE) defined by masonry walls with the straight sides at NE and SE. The headstones date from c. 1780 to c. 1930. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 10 April, 2015
