Bawn in Ballyknock — Report the wrong picture

Ballyknock preserves a circular bawn thirty-nine metres across where a tower house once stood. Its stone foundations mirror an older ringfort, proving that people kept returning to the same defensive line. The land remembers repetition rather than invention.

Associated with the tower house (LF018-060001-). This circular bawn (diam. 39.3m) is defined by the foundations of a stone wall (T 2.1m). Its siting, size and shape suggest that it is almost certainly constructed on the site of a pre-existing ringfort (LF018-060003-) and that its circuit mirrors that of the enclosing element of the ringfort.
