Indicated

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Indicated is a hidden fairy fort in County Limerick, a circular earthen ring about thirty metres wide that once stood in level wet pasture. The 1923 map still draws its boundary, but dense overgrowth has swallowed the ditch and bank, leaving only a smooth green mound beneath the grass. People may have lived there before forgetting it, or the fairies may have taken back the shape when human eyes stopped seeing it. Either way, the land kept the circle even after testimony stopped.
In level wet pasture. Monument, depicted as roughly circular enclosure (diam. c. 30m) on 1923 OS 6-inch map, is now completely covered by dense overgrowth. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
