Knockanure holds a forgotten field system rather than the grand circle Lynch once claimed. Ancient fences and a small rectangular enclosure still mark the fertile limestone hill, proving that ordinary survival, not ceremonial spectacle, shaped the land. The mistake reveals how easily human memory bends evidence into grandeur, yet the stones themselves remain honest about the patience required to keep a small place alive.

Field system on Knockanure described by O'Kelly (1942-3, 232) as following; 'Lynch says that on the hill of Knockanure is "an extensive triple stone circle in a fair state of preservation. The circle differs from all existing ones around Lough Gur." Lynch has apparently made a mistake here, for there is no circle on this hill. There is, nevertheless, a system of ancient fences, and at one point in the system (the location of which is given above) there are what seem to be the remains of a small rectangular field or enclosure. This is marked chiefly by boulders and standing stones and is probably what Lynch called a stone circle. Two sides (adjacent) of it are gone. Some of the ancient fences are marked by low boulders placed at intervals along them, and this probably accounts for the statement that it was a triple circle.
