Britthawce Well in Ballybrophy stands beside the Green Road junction, marking an ancient diagonal route that cut through Borris, Ballykelly and Clonagooden before reaching Aghaboe. Local tradition claims part of that road can still be seen near the well, suggesting the water fed travellers long before modern lanes existed. The well may have been a lifeline on a forgotten march, its cold edge waiting patiently while carts, feet and seasons passed above it.

Unlocated well within townland. According to local tradition an ancient road 'traversed diagonally the parish of Borris (in Ossory), passing through Ballykelly (Bealach Eli), and Clonagooden, then by Britthawce Well in Ballybrophy, where part of it can still be seen, and then through Bushfield to Aghaboe.
