Burial mound in Ballybritt — Report the wrong picture

On a low hillock in County Offaly, people cut a natural rise into a flat-topped burial mound, exposing a sharp scarp and leaving a ditch visible only at the east. The southern edge still holds large boulders, perhaps pulled from a field rather than set as a ceremony. Dead people may have been placed beneath that made plateau, while the living walked past a landscape where even a small hill had to be shaped before it could be called a grave.

Situated on top of a low natural hillock in undulating countryside. Roughly circular flat topped mound (diam. 15.5m E-W; 18.8m N-S; H 1.5m) defined by a scarp with external fosse visible at E only. Large boulders along S perimeter of site probably field clearance debris. The site is the result of the scarping of a natural hillock to produce a flat topped mound.
