Fairy fort in Ballyandrew, County Cork, is an earthen ringfort, a circular bank and ditch about twenty-five metres across, old enough to belong before written records and large enough to hold a household, a herd or a fear. It is the kind of place people named for what they refused to explain, as if the fairies were merely the prettiest word for forgotten human life.
