What is recorded here

Embanked enclosure is a fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Ballinvilla, County Roscommon, Ireland. It occupies an oval grass-covered area on a south-facing slope, measuring forty-one metres east-west and thirty-three point two metres north-south. An earthen bank surrounds the west and north, while a steeper scarp defines the east and downslope south. Two other raths lie within five hundred metres, and a grass-covered quarry appears outside the southwest perimeter.

On a S-facing slope. Oval grass-covered area (dims 41m E-W; 33.2m N-S) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 2.5m; int. H 0.8m; ext. H 0.2-0.8m) W-N which is reduced to a scarp (H 0.6m at E to 2m at S (downslope)) elsewhere. There is no visible fosse or entrance, but there is a grass-covered quarry outside the perimeter at SW. Rath (RO010-067----) is c. 50m to the W and rath (RO010-069----) is c. 200m to the SE. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 24 August 2010
