Rusheen Point on the northern shore of Lough Melvin held a desperate backup graveyard for bodies that rough seas prevented from reaching Inishtemple island. Faughnan walked the furze-choked promontory around 1943 and found only rough ground without headstones, suggesting the lake itself swallowed both the dead and the memory of where they lay. The point has since vanished from local knowledge, leaving behind a strange gap where grief should have marked the earth.

There is a tradition of a burial site on the promontory of Rusheen Point on the N shore of Lough Melvin where those who could not be buried on Inishtemple island because of rough weather were buried (Faughnan c. 1943). He describes it as an area of rough ground covered in furze but there were no headstones evident. This location is not known. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 17 December, 2015
