Armorial plaque in Carstown (ferrard By; Termonfecin Par.)

Armorial plaque

What is recorded here

One of two armorial plaques (see also LH021-046004-) dated 1612 in Carstown House (LH021-046002-). This one in false relief is over the original external doorway at the centre of the S wall. The initials 'O.P.' and 'K.H.' over the coat of arms representing Plunket impaling Hussey within a wreath would appear to represent the names of Oliver Plunket and Katherine Hussey, the then owners of the house. Beneath is the inscription IN DMNO / CONFIDO 1612 (Faith in the Lord) (FitzGerald 1906; Tempest 1943a, 219-20). Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 9 May 2016
