PLATFORM RATH in Ardgeehan

PLATFORM RATH

What is recorded here

Ardgeehan holds a platform rath, a raised earthwork built for visibility and defense. Its exact age remains unclear, but the shape is clear: a small hilltop stage where human life could be seen from a distance. The platform may have served a household, a watchpost or a boundary marker. In any case, the ground was shaped to lift people above the ordinary landline.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as PLATFORM RATH. Recorded period: E.CHRIST.. Recorded protection: Scheduled. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
