Anomalous stone group in Cloghboola Beg

Anomalous stone group

What is recorded here

Five stones stand in a tight ring, but several flat slabs lie broken south of them. The completed circle may have collapsed under weather or human hands, leaving its stones scattered like a sentence erased halfway. What remains is a threshold rather than a chamber: a place where the boundary between inside and outside became blurred.
This record is for a number of prostrate slabs to the S of the five-stone circle (CO048-080002-). They have been mentioned in the Inventory entry (6459) for the stone circle. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 3: Mid Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
