Kinpurnie Castle is a baronial mansion built in 1908 for Sir Charles W. Cayzer, still occupied by his family. Thoms and Wilkie designed the towered house, then Cayzer widened it in 1910-11 with an east wing and a porte-cochere beneath twin drum towers. Harl and slate catch the Angus light, while the old quarries nearby remind the eye that the ground itself was taken to make the castle stand.
