Newtyle Parish Church is associated with Saint Fillan, a 7th-century Irish monk and healer, whose cult was widely venerated in Perthshire. Traditionally linked to cures for skin diseases and general healing, the church may have been built on or near an earlier sacred site connected to his missionary work in the region.
