Fairy fort in Acres, County Kerry: a circular earthen ringfort, 26 to 28 metres across, set on the lower north slopes of Knocknanacree above two streams that run south to Minard Bay. Its bank is thin in places, thicker where it may have served as a field or lane boundary, and stone collapse lies scattered within. The site still feels like a threshold: old, exposed, and watched over water.

Internal diam. 26m N-S, 28m E-W. A circular univallate rath located on the lower N slopes of Knocknanacree overlooking the confluence of 2 streams which flow S to Minard Bay. Around most of the W half of the enclosure, the earthen enclosing bank is no more than .5m high internally and 1.5m high externally. Its more substantial size in the NNW sector is probably due to its use there as a field boundary fence, and its use as a lane boundary in the NE quadrant probably explains its better condition in that sector. Dense vegetation prevents a close examination both of the entrance gap at NE and of the large quantity of stone collapse scattered around the interior. The above description is derived from J.
