Whistleberry Castle stands on a narrowing peninsula in Aberdeenshire, its keep reduced to a vague turf-covered line and a single rough pillar marking a rock-cut basement. The sea has taken the curtain wall and much of the gatehouse, leaving only drawbridge footings and a possible staircase to argue that people once climbed, guarded and lived there. What remains is a bruised edge of stone where the land lets go, inviting imagination to fill the rooms the cliff erased.
