Whistleberry Castle stands on a narrowing peninsula in Aberdeenshire, where cliff erosion has already swallowed part of the curtain wall that once enclosed the top. What remains is a turf-hidden keep, gatehouse footings and a drawbridge shadow, enough to show that people built there against the sea and left it to the sea. The castle does not need a legend to be strange; it is still losing itself to the coast.
