Marianne and I walked to a hidden rath, not a distant castle. We crossed pasture, touched the bank and watched Marianne leave a red mark on the clay. The rath was not dead; it was waiting for the kind of person who can be changed by it. I came home different, more honest and more alive.

In level pasture. Depicted as hachured circular enclosure (diam. c. 70m), with field boundary skirting site NNE->SSE on 1842 OS 6-inch map. Faint trace of levelled bank visible as low rise enclosing circular area, most noticeable to E where shallow depression exists to outside. Field boundary still exists to E. Recorded by Bowman (1934, 420) as levelled double-ramparted fort (diam. inner circuit 75yd) on Mr Dennehy's land; '96 yards of outer rampart still remains to form the boundary fence between two fields.'
