Rath

A level, circular area (diam. 31m) is enclosed by a well-defined fosse and by a low, outer, earthen bank. A slight berm is visible between the fosse and the bank from NE-E-SSE (overall diam. 50m). Rath, Curragh (Ballysax East Ed) is a circular earthwork enclosure, likely a ringfort, dating to the Early Medieval period (c. 500–1000 AD). Its features, including a fosse and earthen bank, are typical of defensive or agricultural settlements of that era.
