Rahinaghmore

On gradual E-facing slope in generally undulating terrain. Enclosure mostly under coniferous forestry, only c. 20m of NE quadrant is in a clearing but the ground is much disturbed. Running N from the N sector there is a lake, which is depicted as encroaching on the bank on the current OS 6-inch map. The lake is now divided into two ponds which have been subject to reclamation works, a deep channel running roughly N-S from the NE angle of the pond has been re-cut to assist run-off with a a high mound of upcast to E. The bank of the enclosure does not survive in the E sector. The enclosure has been bisected by a road (Wth 8m) running N-S. The enclosure (diam.c.120m N-S) is defined by an earthen bank (Wth 5.7m; int. H 0.52-1.68m; ext. H 1.43-1.8m), with a fosse (Wth 1.6m; D 1.13m) and outer bank (Wth 3.9m; ext. H 1.22m) in the N quad. but this outer bank is likely to be the townland boundary depicted on the OS 6-inch map. An outer fosse is depicted on the OS 6-inch map along the W quadrant but this is not visible at ground level. According to Cahill (1982) there was possible entrance in the SE quadrant but this is not now visible and the ground in this area has been disturbed.
