Kilcosgrave Castle kept a rabbit warren in 1299 until foxes destroyed every last hare. The heirs of W. Roth dean held the land under T. f. Gerald, yet no human hand appears in that sudden loss. Perhaps the foxes came not as predators but as cleaners, wiping away a cage the earth had stopped wanting to bear.

The precise location of a medieval rabbit warren mentioned in 13th century documents belonging to Kilcosgrave Castle (LI019-109----) has not been identified. Westropp (1906-7, 245) recorded the following details about Kilcosgrove (Cill Choscráin) Castle and rabbit warren; '1299 The heirs of W. Roth dean under T. f.
