R. Luke Concanen

Richard Luke Concanen was born in County Galway, Ireland, in 1747, but Catholic schools were outlawed there, forcing him to flee to Italy at seventeen. He became the first Bishop of New York, yet died in Naples in 1810, buried in San Domenico Maggiore. The boy who ran from banned classrooms became a bridge between continents, carrying Irish faith into American soil before returning to Italian earth.
