R. C. Chapel

Church

What is recorded here

According to Egan (1960, 161-3), this Catholic church was built c. 1807 on the site of 'Dun Leodha' (GA088-018----). It served the parish of Kicloony until 1852 when it was decided to built a larger church (see GA088-028001-) on its site. The church appears to have been cruciform in plan as local tradition suggests that the roof was partly thatched and partly slated, possibly indicating two phases of building. The initial building may have been oblong in plan and transepts and a sacristy may have been subsequently added (Egan ibid.). No visible surface trace survives.
