Promontory fort stands where County Cork’s land meets the sea, a coastal defence built on the edge of the world. Stones and soil may have been shaped into a fortress because the horizon itself felt like a threat. People likely watched the water from that ridge, reading storms and danger in the same breath. The fort still holds that old alertness, waiting for the tide to remind them why the edge must be defended.
