Barrys Castle occupied a rocky promontory in Reanies Bay before men levelled it around 1810, leaving behind a square sod-covered platform and a rock-cut defence. The sea still touches the edge of that forgotten room, turning a lost military boundary into a living shape. What remains is small enough to walk across in a minute, yet large enough to hold every person who ever stood there watching the water.

Rocky steep-sided, sub-rectangular area projecting E into Reanies Bay. Rock-cut fosse crosses promontory on seaward side of neck (CO133-033002-) but regarded by Westropp (1914, 102) as part of castle's defences. At S end of fosse and immediately inside (to E) it is roughly square sod-covered platform (c. 10m x c. 10m; H c. 1m) with some stone facing visible at base. Remains of Barry castle built pre-1553 and finally levelled to present state about 1810 (Westropp 1914, 102).
