Powis Castle was built by the Welsh nobleman Sir Roger Vaughan in the 13th century and later held by the Herbert family, Earls of Pembroke, from the 17th century. It is important as a well-preserved example of medieval and later architectural styles and as a symbol of Welsh aristocratic heritage.
