What is recorded here
Crannog is the right word for an island home, but Lough Gilly is the life of the story. The water kept its own counsel, moving around the island and changing the shape of the land. A house may have stood there in the early Christian period, built on top of a living lake rather than beside a dead one.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as possible CRANNOG in LOUGH GILLY. Recorded period: E.CHRIST.. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.
