PLATFORM RATH in Ballybentragh

PLATFORM RATH

What is recorded here

Mortars and cement still mark the edge where the old platform stood. The builders raised a flat stage above the plain, giving people a wider footprint for tools, trade or ceremony. That much is clear from the surviving shape. What is missing is the voice inside the room, the reason the stage faced that direction and the name they used when they pointed at it.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as PLATFORM RATH. Recorded period: E.CHRIST.. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
