On a slight SE-facing slope in a large pasture field. Local information that people came to an old building in this field when Owning chapel was ‘closed against the priest and people’ (a reference to Carrigan 1905). Location identified by a local informant. Not visible at ground level.

This site is associated with Penal Times Catholic worship in Ireland, when Mass was celebrated in secret due to religious persecution. The local tradition reflects the resilience of Catholic communities who gathered in hidden locations, such as this field, when officially sanctioned chapels were unavailable.
