Pedestal of Cross in County Longford preserves a broken cross-base beneath two oak trees, local memory calling the stone St Patrick's Knee. People once walked stations around it, tying ordinary pasture to the older termon of Ardagh. The small socket still hints at a taller cross, inviting wonder about what stood there before it broke.

In level pasture, beneath two oak trees. Described in 1837 as 'the pedestal of a cross, at which the people perform stations. This must have been one of the crosses of the termon of Ardagh' (OSL, 39). Remains consist of a fragment of a cross-base with a subrectangular socket set in it (SMR file, 1977). The stone (L 0.6m; Wth 0.4m; H 0.1m), known locally as 'St Patrick's Knee', is set within a modern-looking, crescentic-shaped, low cairn (2m N-S; 1.6m E-W; H 0.25m). Compiled by: Patrick F.
