Gateway, c.1850, comprising pair of tooled rusticated limestone ashlar piers with inscribed benchmark, cut-limestone date stone/plaque (1989), and iron double gates having cast-iron finials. Renovated, 1989, with capping removed. Road fronted.
An appealing gateway of simple appearance displaying high quality stone masonry while retaining the early iron ware enhancing the design value of the composition. An inscribed benchmark is of additional significance for the historic associations with cartography and the preparation of maps by the Ordnance Survey.
