Passage tomb in Sheegeeragh

On a gentle S-facing slope with rock outcrop. Circular grass-covered area (diam. 12m N-S; 11.5m E-W) defined by the stumps of occasional kerbstones. At its S edge there is a passage (dims 3.5m E-W; 1.9-2.05m N-S), of which most of the orthostats (dims 0.2-0.5m x 0.1-0.2m; H c. 0.1-0.3m) of the S side survive. Outside the kerb there are two lines of orthostats (L 4.4m; 3.3m) aligned NE-SW. Cairn (RO028-133---) is 80m to the N, and passage tomb (RO028-135----) is 70m to the S. Passage tomb, dating to the Neolithic period (c. 3500–2500 BCE). It represents a significant early funerary and ceremonial structure, typical of megalithic traditions in Ireland.
