What is recorded here

Situated at the base of the W facing slope of a prominent hill in grassland with good views from SW-W. Ringfort (WM011-129----) 70m to N. Depicted on the 1837 OS Fair Plan map as an oval shaped enclosure (approx. diam. 23m N-S) annotated ‘fort’. The earthwork has been partially levelled on the W side. All that remains is an earthen bank (Wth 3.5m; H 0.8m) which curves from N-E-SSE. The field fence running N-S which forms the townland boundary with Johnstown transected the W side of the monument as depicted on the 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map. No surface evidence of enclosure on W side of townland boundary. Possible outline of levelled monument to W of townland boundary visible on Digital Globe aerial photograph taken November 2011. Compiled by: Frank Coyne and Caimin O'Brien Date of upload: 29 August 2017
