What is recorded here

Partially hachured is a bawn in County Limerick, Ireland, beside Castle-Erkin South. The south and east edges still show a shallow scarp, while the rest has flattened into pasture. A rectangular shadow appeared in aerial images above the field, suggesting a lost bank or castle boundary. The land remembers a structure that people no longer point to.

Situated on a gentle SE-facing slope in undulating pasture with good views. Earthwork associated with the levelled site of ‘Castle Erkin’ (LI014-088002-). Site visited in 2005 and described as a sub-rectangular shaped area (dims. 60m N-S x 20m E-W) defined to S and E by a scarp (Wth 7.9m; H 0.9m). Cropmark of rectangular-shaped enclosure visible on Digital Globe orthoimage taken 20011-2013.
