Why this matters
Pal a' Chaitainich is a sea cliff or coastal rock feature composed of Lewisian gneiss, some of the oldest rocks in the British Isles, dating back approximately 2.7 to 3 billion years. These rocks formed through high-grade metamorphism of ancient igneous and sedimentary rocks and are notable for their durability and role in the geological foundation of the Outer Hebrides.
