What is recorded here
The clay-slate block from Tinnahally still stands in Townparks, carrying an up-down inscription that names a man called Doligenn. It travelled from a hidden underground passage in a Kerry ringfort to a Cork collection and finally into a national museum, pulling a buried local world across a wide distance. The stone does not pretend to be a common marker; it preserves a name, a lineage and a forgotten act of removal.
This is the present location of the stone from Tinnahally, Co. Kerry (KE057-105001-) and forms part of the ogham stone collection of the National Museum of Ireland. Macalister (1945, 249) records that 'Two stones were raised from the Man-made underground passage of a fort, the name of which is given as "Lisnareabh," on lands in the occupation of a man called Foley, innkeeper of Killorglin, who showed them to Windele. Windele acquired them and removed them to Cork; they are now in the Royal Irish Academy's collection.' This stone is in the National Museum of Ireland. There is a ringfort (KE057-006----) in the townland of Tinnahally named 'Lisnareabagh' on the OS 6-inch map and it contains a Man-made underground passage (KE057-006001-). It seems probable that the stones came from here. The stone is of clay-slate and measures 1.83m x 0.3m x 0.28m (6 feet x 1 foot by 11 inches). The inscription (up-down) reads: AANM VURUDDRANN MAQ[I] DOLIGENN (Macalister 1945, 249, no. 255).
