Ogham stone

What is recorded here

One of three ogham stones (also CO072-070003-, CO072-070004-) discovered in a Man-made underground passage (CO072-070002-) in 1865, removed by A. Lane-Fox and now in the British Museum (Macalister 1906a, 172-6). Macalister (1945, 123-4, no. 126) described the inscription as cut in an unusual way: 'it begins in the middle of the sinister angle, and runs down to the bottom; then crosses to the bottom of the dexter angle and runs up and on to the top'. Macalister read the inscription on this stone (2.1m; 0.6m x 0.2m) as VEDACUNA [MAQI] TOBIRA MUCOI SOGINI. (Power et al. 1997, no. 7986) Compiled by: Nora White Date of upload: 22 March 2016
