Knockyrourke in County Cork once held a small stone that may have written a name or may have been nothing but chipped rock. Macalister read possible Ogham marks in 1906, then withdrew that claim after looking again. The fields between Stuake and Barrahaurin have kept the contradiction alive: a borderland where certainty fails and imagination enters.

In 1906 Macalister described a stone '3 feet 1/2in high with a much-worn inscription on one angle' (Macalister 1906a, 261), which he read possibly as ULMABI. At a later date Macalister re-examined stone and concluded 'that the marks upon it are not Ogham at all' (Condon 1916, 142). The stone is described (Condon, ibid.) as 'in the third or fourth field at the left side of the road when going from Stuake to Barrahaurin'. The stone is currently unlocated.
