Ogham stone in Dromlusk

A stone pair is situated on a slight rise in a sizeable tract of bog on the NE slopes of Knocknagullion, overlooking the valley of the Blackwater river to the East. Set 1.33m apart, the stones stand in a NNE-SSW line. The taller stone stands 2.1m high and measures .47m x .38m at base. There is an ogham inscription on both edges of its ESE face. Macalister (1945, 215, no. 221) read it up-up as: CATVVIRR MAQI LUGUVVEC. A flake has spalled off just above the fourth score of the final C, rendering it almost indecipherable. A grooved circle, .16m in diameter, is carved on the ESE face of the stone, 1.6m up from its base. Below it is a downward sloping groove, .2m long.
