Originally designed in a traditional formal style with eight structured sides. The lake was later ‘naturalised’ by Earl Temple. The surrounding area is generally level, but with grassy banks rolling down to the water
Octagon Lake was originally laid out in a formal, geometric design with eight sides, reflecting 18th-century landscape gardening traditions, and was later modified to a more naturalistic style by Earl Temple. Its design evolution illustrates changing approaches to landscape architecture in the period.
