Nialls Grave

On level tract of ground in valley headwaters of Brouen River, a tributary of River Bride. Comprises long gallery (L 4.4m; Wth 1.95m at W, 0.95m at E end) aligned E-W, represented by six sidestones to N, four to S and backstone outside gallery walls at E end. Two jamb-like pillar stones stand at W end of gallery; prostrate slab between them may be displaced closing stone. Closely set outer walling survives along N and S sides. Gallery decreases in height from W to E; large stone on end in E part and another displaced stone at W end may be roofstones. Slight traces of mound survive to W and S. Neolithic passage tomb, dating to approximately 3500–2500 BCE. Its alignment and construction reflect early ritual practices associated with burial and ancestor veneration in the Irish Neolithic.
