On a slight rise in pastureland, to SW of Newcastle village. In existence in 1574 when it was in the possession of 'Conogher OKelly' (Nolan 1901b, 122). No visible surface trace survives; the immediate area has been greatly disturbed by quarrying which probably resulted in the destruction of the castle. Conogher O'Kelly held Newcastle, Templemoyle in 1574. The site is remembered for its historical association with the O'Kelly family, a prominent Gaelic Irish dynasty in the region.
