New Bridge off Herbert Road crosses the Dodder where an earlier bridge stood in 1623. Calling it ‘New’ is a very Irish way of giving directions: replace it again in a thousand years and somebody will still call it the new one.
The present bridge across the River Dodder off Herbert Road occupies thesite of an earlier bridge of 1623 date (Ball's post-publication scrapbooks, II, 82-83).
