Nab Crag is a sea cliff composed of Silurian greywacke and slate, formed around 440–420 million years ago through sedimentation and subsequent regional metamorphism. It is notable as part of the extensive Borrowdale Volcanic Group and represents the rugged, ancient geological foundation of the English Lake District and surrounding coastal areas.
