Muness Castle

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Muness Castle as Clearance Cairn (period Unassigned). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Muness Castle, located in Shetland, Scotland, was built in the late 16th century by Laurence Bruce, 2nd Lord of Cultmalindie, as a defensive structure during a period of frequent pirate raids. It is remembered as one of the best-preserved tower houses in Scotland and reflects the strategic importance of the region during the Renaissance.
