Mound in Suirville

In rough, wet area, on W-flood plain of River Suir. Access not gained. Inaccessible due to impenetrable growth and very wet nature of underlying ground. Pond adjacent to S. Depicted on 1905 OS 6-inch map as oval mound (c. 10m N-S; c. 7m E-W) with drain (long-axis c. NNW-SSE) located c. 10m to E. Ringfort (TS068-041----) c. 220m to WNW and Suir Castle (TS068-043----) is visible c. 160m to E, on opposite side of river. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 26 August 2011

A Neolithic burial mound, likely dating to the Early to Middle Bronze Age. Its oval shape and depiction on the 1905 Ordnance Survey map suggest it may be a cairn or barrow, representing early funerary practices in the region.
