Mound in Kinsellastown

Situated on the summit of a low ridge on an E-facing slope. Oval mound (dims. 34m N-S; 11m E-W) surrounded by a bank (Wth 1.75m; H 0.5m) with an inner (Wth 1.75m) and outer fosse (Wth 1.5m; D 0.5m). The line of the inner fosse is marked by a berm on the S side. The mound rises from the N (H 2.5m) to the S end (H 3.5m). Neolithic passage tomb, dating to the 4th–3rd millennium BCE. Its construction with a mound, bank, and fosse reflects early ritual landscape practices in Ireland.
